IMPORTANT NOTICE - How to maintain your battery for best performance.
If your car isn't being used its battery will eventually go flat. But how long your battery will last without you using your car all depends on how old the car is, how it is being used and what condition the battery is in. According to the AA, RAC and Green flag, if its a modern car that has been looked after with a battery that is in good shape, it should be able to last for at least a couple of weeks without needing to be started. Older Batteries are likely to go flat sooner, especially if it is cold outside.
To be safe it is suggested that starting the engine once a week and allowing it to run for at least 15 minutes can help the battery. If you keep your car in a garage, then move it outside before doing this and don't leave your car unattended.
This however, is not a solution for everyone, with the RAC saying that, if your battery isn't in good condition, starting your car up can drain the battery rather than charge it. If this is the case, and if possible, seek expert help for the best course of action.
If you aren't driving during lock down, it may be possible to remove the battery from your car to keep it from going flat, but do not do this unless you know what you are doing, especially if your car is newer than 2014 as it may have complex electronics.
Battery Manufacturer Guarantees do not cover products which have been left in a flat / discharged or unused condition.
